Apparently if you take a cellulose egg carton and fill each little tub with a mixture of wood shavings and melted candle wax you can then peel the carton off and you have a waterproof firestarter. I prefer vaseline soaked cotton balls but I'm going to give this a try. Expect pictures folks.

We're watching the classic 1932 classic horror flick White Zombie! Believed to be the very first Zombie film ever made and starring the legendary Bela Lugosi himself.

The film can be found at this link;

And we're all meeting to chat at;

Just go to the Zen Messenging section before the film starts and wait for the countdown to press play.

See you all there!

I got bored recently and made a paracord handle for my old diving knife I used to use when sailing. Then I stuck a roll of duct tape on it's lanyard and threw out the rest of my BOB as I no longer needed it. (Just kidding.)
Picture!Collapse )
Theres not much that can't be fixed with a knife, duct tape and paracord right? Except that now my knife wouldn't fit back in it's sheath. No problem. It was pretty crap anyway. Time to break out the tool kit and make a new one!

Here it is!Collapse )

When society has collapsed into ruin and the few survivors are reduced to a primitive hunter-gatherer lifestyle we're going to have to fall back onto the skills of our ancestors. And I'm not talking about hitting things with a club either. Our ancestors knew more than we give them credit for and they mastered a lot of skills that are very quickly being forgotten in the modern world. Making and using a hunting bow is one of them. There are still tribesmen today who rely on this weapon for protection and for food. Not just for them but for their families. It's simple design is ageless but it takes a lot of practice to make a great bow. Here are the basics so that you'll at least know where to start on your journey to becoming a master bowyer or fletcher. If nothing else you can make a great toy for your kids, as long as they're well supervised.

I mentioned in the bug out bag article about wind up flashlights and their utility in a survival situation. So I put together a review to give you a better look at them.

Review!Collapse )

I'd say these things are ideal for a small BOB, but for a more hard wearing kit you may want a maglite or surefire and carry one of these as a backup. They're not really tough enough for bashing zombies with. That said they are remarkably affordable. This one only set me back £5.00 (about $9.00) so it's quite practical to have three of these things, one at home, one in the car and one in your BOB. You can never be to prepared.

The US government, after the 9/11 attacks and the events caused by hurricane Katrina, has advised all it's citizens to prepare what they call a go-bag. Three days worth of basic supplies to help you survive a disaster. In the survival community these are called bug out bags, or BOB's for short. The government advises your BOB contain the following;

Bottled water
Energy bars
A flashlight
A first aid kit
Necessary medication
Important documents
Spare Keys
A change of clothing

In this article we're going to look at the BOB a little closer and talk about how much water you need to carry, how to carry it and look at a few other items you may want to think about for an emergency. A lot of the stuff you will probably have in your home right now. But do you really want to be digging through cupboards when there are zombies hammering at your door?

This should give you a basic understanding of the main elements of a BOB. It is far from a complete guide and I'm sure you can already think of many other things you'd pack as well. Thats great. Everyones bag is personal to them and matches their skills, ideas and needs. With these basic preparations in place you are now far more capable of surviving any disaster big or small. Although midget zombies scare the crap outta me.

Feel free to post your own suggestions for a basic bug out bag.

This community is dedicated to promoting self reliance and personal preparation to better enable you to survive the undead threat.

Your survival is not something that should be left in the hands of others and we all have a responsibility to be able to care for ourselves and our loved ones should the worst happen.

Of course your training with us will also enable you to better survive other types disaster such as hurricanes, fire, civil disturbances and flat tyres but we all really know zombies are far more likely to happen.
